January 15, 2013
Dear Parent and Guardian:
After 38 years in public education, and 18 of those years being at the Mother Lode Union School District, I have decided that the 2012-13 will be my final year as the Mother Lode Union School District Superintendent. I will retire effective June 30, 2013. I have notified the District Board of Trustees of my decision and they will be discussing the options and processes the District will utilize to select a new Superintendent for the 2013-14 year.
I want to thank you for the support you have provided to the District and to me personally throughout my years of employment in the organization. I am very fortunate to work in a District that places students first, and promotes a respectful partnership with students, staff, parents, and the community.
Public education and specifically the Mother Lode Union School District have been through some very difficult economic times during the last few years, but with your help we have maintained a financially stable school system. The District is in a sound financial position to move forward, and I am hopeful that with the passing of Proposition 30 and an improving economy, the future for the District and public education will steadily improve.
I will remain committed to fulfill my duties as Superintendent, achieve established goals, provide leadership, safeguard the successful education of every student, and ensure the transition to a new Superintendent occurs as smoothly as possible.
Rest assured that you will not see any curtailment in my work ethic or leadership efforts over the next six months. Thank you again for entrusting and supporting me to serve as your Superintendent for the last three years. If you have any questions please call my office.
Sincerely,
Tim Smith
Superintendent
